Geotechnical study in Fondó de les Neus, el/Hondón de las Nieves

In the municipality of Hondón de las Nieves, a substrate composed mainly of fine sands and silts predominates, present in almost the entire area. The low permeability of these formations contributes to the overall stability of the ground, although deep aquifers may exist that influence hydraulic behaviour in the long term. These soils generally provide sufficient bearing capacity for most projects; however, a detailed geotechnical study is essential to select an appropriate foundation and to avoid issues associated with local heterogeneity or the occasional presence of less competent strata.

With regard to geotechnical conditions, Hondón de las Nieves lies in an area of significant seismicity, with 52 events recorded over 30 years, although all of them are of low magnitude (Mmax 3.4), which reduces the seismic requirements for structural design. The non-clayey substrate rules out the possibility of expansivity, simplifying the calculation and prediction of differential movements. However, the possible existence of cavities related to karstification in the subsoil makes it essential to verify this prior to any foundation process, and this is the main factor conditioning the geotechnical study phase.
