Types of ground in Seville
In Seville, calcareous formations predominate, such as limestones, dolomites and marbles, accompanied by deposits of fine sands, silts and, in smaller proportions, compacted gravels. These materials provide an adequate bearing capacity for conventional foundations, although in the presence of fine sands and silts it may be necessary to assess susceptibility to differential settlement, particularly in areas near bodies of water or shallow aquifers. In general, the low permeability of these materials limits the flow of groundwater, which benefits the stability of the foundations.
Seismicity in Seville is very low, with fewer than 10 recorded events over a period of 30 years and a maximum magnitude below 2. Since no evidence of karst is detected, nor is there a risk of expansiveness thanks to the non-clayey nature of the substrate, the dominant geotechnical condition that must be addressed corresponds to the local heterogeneity of the soils, especially in areas with shallow aquifers. It is therefore recommended that a specific geotechnical study be carried out to adjust the foundation type according to the actual mechanical behaviour of the soils explored on site.

Fine sands and silts
Fine to very fine granular soils with medium to loose compacity. Typical of floodplains and coastlines. Although they can support light buildings, they are treacherous soils linked to water processes:

Compact gravels and sands
High-compacity granular deposits, typically associated with old fluvial terraces (Ebro, Duero, Tajo, Guadalquivir rivers) and Pleistocene glacis. They have no cohesion (they are not clays) but their a
