Types of ground in Valencian Community

The Valencian Community, located in the south-east of Spain, has a geographical diversity that ranges from the Mediterranean coast to mountainous inland areas, such as the Baetic Cordillera and the Serralada de la Marina. The region includes provinces such as Valencia, Alicante and Castellón, with territorial plots characterised by sedimentary soils, mainly silty and clayey, in plain areas along the coast and calcareous ground in inland areas. Proximity to the sea influences soil moisture and the distribution of sediments, making it relevant to stability and bearing capacity studies.

The coastal comarcas, such as the Marina Alta and the Horta Nord, have deep, well-drained soils, suitable for construction projects and for agricultural purposes. In contrast, inland areas, such as the comarca of Los Serranos, have soils with a higher content of clays and gypsum, which can affect ground stability and may require specific analyses in geotechnical studies. The territorial variability calls for a differentiated technical approach to assess the suitability of the soil in each municipality, also taking into account the influence of faults and tectonic movements in certain areas.
