Geotechnical study in Yaiza

In Yaiza, formations of sandstone, conglomerates and flysch predominate, accompanied by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks, configuring a geotechnical environment of high mechanical competence. These lithologies exhibit adequate bearing capacity for shallow foundations, with a low risk of differential settlement and a limited presence of soft materials such as overconsolidated clays or anthropogenic fill. The existence of permeable formations favours the occasional occurrence of perched aquifers, which must be verified during the reconnaissance phase to avoid problems with the stability of foundations.

Seismic activity in the municipality is very limited, with a single reported event in the last 30 years and a low maximum magnitude. There are no signs of karstification phenomena or risks associated with the presence of expansive materials, given the predominance of non-clayey substrate. The main constraint for geotechnical studies in this area lies in controlling permeability and the possible presence of perched water table levels; therefore, their inspection is essential for the correct design of foundation works.
