Geotechnical study in Soto del Real

In Soto del Real, the subsoil is dominated by slates and schists, accompanied to a lesser extent by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks, which gives the ground high cohesion and strength. These materials, being hard in nature and generally impermeable, provide good bearing capacities for shallow or semi-deep foundations. The minor presence of gravels, compact sands and masses of water does not significantly condition the choice of foundation type, provided that an adequate detailed investigation is carried out in the specific areas where these loose deposits appear.

Seismic activity in the municipality is very low, with a small number of events and a maximum magnitude that is hardly relevant (Mmax 2.9), so it does not represent a significant constraint for structural design. There are no signs of karst processes or expansiveness associated with clayey soils, since the predominant substrate is not clayey, thereby ruling out this risk. The main constraint will be determined by the local assessment of the breakdown and weathering of the schists and slates, which are key factors for defining the safety and durability of the designed foundations.
