Geotechnical study in Soria

In Soria, slates and schists predominate, representing more than 80% of the substrate, accompanied occasionally by compact gravels and sands. These lithologies are characterised by low permeability and high consistency, which generally provides good bearing capacity for conventional foundations. However, the presence of superficial aquifers may require additional drainage measures. It is recommended to carry out specific tests to confirm the depth and continuity of the most compact formations before defining the optimal foundation type.

Seismicity in Soria is high in terms of number of events, although of moderate intensity (Mmax 4.1), so it does not usually represent a severe structural constraint, but it should be taken into account in geotechnical studies. Given the possible presence of karst, it is essential to carry out a specific ground verification to rule out cavities or zones affected by dissolution before founding. The non-clayey substrate eliminates the risk of swelling, so the main focus should be on detecting cavities and precisely characterising the subsoil.
