Geotechnical study in Nerva

In the municipality of Nerva, the dominant substrate is mainly composed of slates and schists, representing 68.33% of the area, accompanied to a lesser extent by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks. This geological composition usually results in soils with low susceptibility to weathering and good strength, although their permeability is generally low. These materials typically exhibit an adequate bearing capacity for conventional structures, allowing direct foundation solutions in most cases, provided that the presence of weathered or fractured zones is verified.

Local seismicity is very low, with only one recorded event in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.5, so the seismic hazard is virtually non-existent for structural design. No risk of karstification is detected, nor the presence of expansive clay soils, since the non-clayey substrate rules out problems of expansivity. As the main limiting factor, the low permeability of the ground stands out, which may affect drainage systems and should be considered particularly in projects involving deep excavations or basements.
