Geotechnical study in Miraflores de la Sierra

In Miraflores de la Sierra, substrates of phyllites and schists predominate, representing an absolute majority of the ground conditions, followed by the significant presence of granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks. These materials are usually highly competent from a geotechnical standpoint, providing a good overall bearing capacity and favouring shallow (direct) foundations, except in localised areas where compact gravels and sands may be present and require specific ground characterisation. The occasional presence of water bodies highlights the need for a detailed study of local hydrogeology, although the overall permeability remains very low in these metamorphic and magmatic soils.

Seismicity in the municipality is very low, with only 3 recorded events in 30 years and a low maximum magnitude, which minimises the seismic impact on structural design. The non-clayey substrate practically rules out the risk of expansivity, providing additional assurance for the stability of the foundations. No karst-related phenomena have been reported that could compromise the ground, so the main focus should be on the local characterisation of rock fracturing and possible shallow groundwater levels, as this is the most relevant factor to consider in the geotechnical studies for the municipality.
