Geotechnical study in Meco

In the municipality of Meco, the presence of water masses, sandstones, conglomerates, flysch, and, in smaller proportions, shales and schists predominates, together with a small percentage of limestones and dolomites. In general, these materials favour medium-to-high bearing capacities and allow the execution of shallow foundations in most cases, although the existence of extensive and highly permeable aquifers requires an adequate assessment of the groundwater level, especially near bodies of water, in order to avoid stability and drainage problems at the base of the structures.

Seismic activity in Meco is very low, with only 5 events recorded over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 3; therefore, seismicity does not represent a relevant constraint for structural design. There are no indications of karstification or any significant presence of expansive clayey ground, since expansive clays are only subordinate or are associated with climatic contexts that are not particularly problematic. The main factor to consider will be the appropriate management of groundwater and the prevention of dampness in contact with highly permeable soils.
