Geotechnical study in Mayorga

In the municipality of Mayorga, the subsoil is mainly dominated by compact gravels and sands, which provides excellent support for foundations, favouring a high bearing capacity. Less commonly, sandstone, conglomerates and flysch may be found, as well as fine sands and silts, although the latter may show somewhat less favourable behaviour in terms of compactness and stability, particularly in conditions of saturation. The overall low permeability of the formations may help to limit the penetration of surface waters, although deeper aquifers may exist that would require hydraulic control in excavations.

There is no risk of karstification. However, special attention must be paid to the presence of expansive clays that are locally predominant, since their volumetric behaviour can significantly affect the stability of shallow foundations, especially in climatically compatible areas for their development. Thus, the expansivity of certain soils is positioned as the main conditioning factor for any geotechnical study in the locality.
