Geotechnical study in Coirós

In Coirós, the dominant geological substratum is composed mainly of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which represent almost all of the soils in the municipality. These lithologies provide generally favourable bearing capacity for construction, although their low permeability limits natural drainage and may lead to the formation of shallow aquifers in certain areas. Seismicity in Coirós is very low, with only one recorded event over three decades and a maximum magnitude of 1.5, which significantly reduces the need for specific requirements in the seismic design of structures. In addition, the non-clayey substratum present in the municipality rules out the risk of expansivity, eliminating a potential common issue in other areas. Therefore, the main focus should be on characterising the level of impermeability and its influence on the management of groundwater beneath foundations.
