Geotechnical study in Albudeite

In Albudeite, limestone, dolomites and marbles predominate, representing most of the substrate, which provides a firm base with high bearing capacity for structures. The additional presence of compacted gravels and sands supports good stability, whereas the fractions of fine sands and silts, as well as sandstones and conglomerates, are scarce and usually do not affect the foundation. This composition facilitates the use of isolated spread footings or shallow foundations, although it is essential to analyse the possible presence of voids or irregularities associated with the dominant carbonate materials.

The low seismicity of Albudeite, with a record of only one event in 30 years and a maximum magnitude of moderate size, allows this parameter to be ruled out as an essential constraint in geotechnical design. However, the karstic nature of the substrate requires specific verification to rule out pre-existing cavities or dissolutions before any construction work, this being the main technical consideration for the development of geotechnical studies in the area.
