Types of ground in Ainzón
In Ainzón, the dominant subsoil is made up mainly of fine sands and silts, which suggests foundation conditions suitable for moderate loads provided that the density and the groundwater level are verified. The occasional presence of sandstones, conglomerates, flysch and calcareous materials such as limestones and dolomites can provide more robust bearing points, increasing bearing capacity in certain areas. However, well-compacted gravels and sands also offer good strength characteristics, whereas levels with slates and schists, although infrequent, require special attention due to their anisotropic behaviour.
Seismicity in the municipality is very low, with only one recorded event in 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.9, which minimises any possible seismic influence on structural design. In addition, the subsoil is not clayey in nature, so the risk of expansivity is ruled out in the context of foundations. Thus, the main geotechnical constraint in Ainzón lies in the lithological heterogeneity of the ground, particularly in verifying the density and uniformity of the sand and silt strata in order to avoid differential settlement.
Fine sands and silts
Fine to very fine granular soils with medium to loose compacity. Typical of floodplains and coastlines. Although they can support light buildings, they are treacherous soils linked to water processes:
