Geotechnical study in Sant Salvador de Guardiola

In Sant Salvador de Guardiola, the subsoil is composed mainly of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which constitute granular, bedded materials. These formations are generally compact and show low permeability, although they may host shallow aquifers in certain sectors. This type of ground typically provides adequate bearing capacity for shallow foundations, although it will be essential to analyse the possible presence of less competent layers, such as clay intercalations within the flysch, in order to prevent differential settlement.

The municipality’s seismicity is very low, with only around 4 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.5, so it is not considered a relevant constraint for structural design. However, the development of karst processes, although not usual in this kind of formation, must be specifically checked before carrying out any foundation works, as dissolution zones associated with intercalated carbonate levels could occur.
