Geotechnical study in Callús

In the municipality of Callús, ground conditions formed by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch predominate, representing approximately 75% of the soils, while fine sands and silts account for the remaining 25%. These lithologies generally provide a bearing capacity sufficient for most shallow foundations, although in finer-grained soils it may be necessary to assess the presence of silt-sand interbeds susceptible to differential settlement. The low permeability typical of these materials also limits natural drainage, which is relevant for controlling moisture on worksites.

Seismic activity in Callús is very low, with a maximum of five events in the last thirty years and a maximum recorded magnitude of 1.6, ruling out seismicity as a relevant constraint for construction projects. Since the underlying substrate is not clayey, the risk of expansivity is eliminated, which simplifies the foundation design process. Under these conditions, the main technical factor will be the detailed characterisation of the bearing capacity and the compactness of the sedimentary formations, paying particular attention to the fine or poorly consolidated strata.
