Geotechnical study in Massanassa

In Massanassa, the most common soils are white or soft expansive clays, which account for almost half of the subsoil, followed by compact gravels and sands. The latter allow a good bearing capacity and generally support direct foundations. However, the significant presence of expansive clays, although subordinate or localised in areas with little impact from water deficit, can influence the foundation design locally, especially if there are seasonal variations in moisture. In addition, there are areas associated with water bodies and aquifers that require special attention regarding groundwater level control and drainage.

Seismic activity in Massanassa is practically non-existent, with just one event in the last 30 years and a low maximum magnitude, resulting in a context of very low seismicity with no significant impact on structural design. The expansivity factor should be monitored in areas where the clay outcrops, although the regular occurrence of compact gravels and sands generally acts as a barrier against significant expansive movements. The main constraint in the geotechnical study will be the accurate identification of the areas with clayey soils in order to adapt efficiently the foundation solution and manage safely the interaction with the groundwater level.
