Geotechnical study in Gordexola

In Gordexola, the predominant subsoil consists of limestones, dolomites and marbles, accounting for more than 68% of the lithological presence within the municipality. These materials generally exhibit good bearing capacity, making them suitable for direct foundations on rock under favourable conditions. Sandstone and conglomerate beds, although less frequent, also provide some competence to the subsoil. Only fine sands and silts appear in marginal quantities, and these must be assessed in detail due to their lower strength and potential deformability if they are in contact with foundations.

The seismicity recorded in Gordexola is practically negligible, with only one event in 30 years and a very low maximum magnitude of 1.6, so it does not require specific consideration in structural design. Since the subsoil is largely non-clayey, the risk of expansivity associated with plastic soils is ruled out. There are no indications of significant karstification in the area; therefore, the main geotechnical consideration is to correctly identify the thickness and continuity of the carbonate formations in order to select the most appropriate foundation type and ensure stability.
