Types of ground in Cubelles

In Cubelles, soils are predominantly formed by high-hardness overconsolidated clays and marls, accompanied by frequent outcrops of limestone, dolomites and marbles, as well as layers of compact gravel and sand. This substrate provides a good bearing capacity and enables the design of shallow foundations except in localised areas where clayey silts or peats of deltaic origin outcrop; owing to their low strength and high compressibility, these should be avoided for supporting structures due to the high risk of differential settlement.

Seismicity in the municipality is very low, with only two recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.7, so it does not constitute a constraint for the design of foundations. There is no risk of expansiveness detected due to the predominance of non-clayey substrate; however, the presence of carbonate formations implies the need to rule out or verify the existence of karst cavities before carrying out any foundation work, this being the most relevant geotechnical factor to consider in the area.
