Types of ground in Torrent

In Torrent, a rocky substratum predominates, composed of limestones, dolomites and marbles, which generally ensures a good bearing capacity and a rigid behaviour for foundations. Secondarily, there are areas with fine sands and silts, which may present a lower bearing capacity and greater compressibility, as well as the very local presence of gravels, compact sands and masses of water associated with extensive and highly permeable aquifers. This variety of materials means that the bearing capacity analysis must be adapted locally, avoiding direct support on less competent materials and taking into account the possible groundwater table.

Seismicity in Torrent is moderate, recorded in 14 events over 30 years and with a maximum magnitude of 2.9, so it does not represent a significant constraint for structural design. However, given the dominant substratum, the karst phenomenon must be evaluated specifically before executing any foundation work, since the presence of voids or dissolutions in the rock may affect stability. The absence of an argillaceous substratum rules out the risk associated with expansivity. The primary constraint to consider in Torrent is therefore the presence of karst and the pronounced permeability of the ground.
