Geotechnical study in Pradejón

In Pradejón, the ground is composed mainly of compact gravels and sands, followed by sandstones and conglomerates, which favours optimal conditions for the bearing capacity of the ground and enables direct foundations with safety. The occasional presence of fine sands, silts and gypsum, together with the high permeability characteristic of the existing aquifers, recommends taking extra precautions in specific areas that are susceptible to salt dissolution or differential settlement in localised zones.

Seismic activity in Pradejón is considered high due to more than 150 recorded events in the last 30 years, although the maximum documented magnitude does not exceed M=4. In this context, the structural design must incorporate basic criteria for earthquake resistance. Since the substratum is not clayey, the risk of expansiveness is ruled out, with the main factor conditioning the geotechnical study being the possibility of gypsum or salt dissolution, especially in areas with a greater presence of these materials.
