Geotechnical study in Pontenova, A

In Pontenova, the geological substrate is largely dominated by slates and schists, metamorphic materials characterised by low permeability and significant cohesion. These formations generally offer favourable bearing capacity for shallow foundations, provided they are found in a fresh state and without significant alteration; however, the presence of fractures may favour the development of shallow aquifers, an aspect to be taken into account for the design and execution of the foundation.

As regards geotechnical performance, local seismicity is classified as very low (6 events in 30 years, Mmax 2), and does not represent a significant design constraint. The presence of karst is relevant and must be checked in detail through prior studies before any foundation, since cavities and dissolutions in the subsurface may compromise the stability of structures. The non-clayey substrate rules out the risk of expansivity, so the main precaution should focus on verifying possible karst processes in the study area.
