Geotechnical study in Mataró

In the municipality of Mataró, soils formed by compacted gravels and sands predominate, followed by extensive outcrops of granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks. These characteristics provide a high bearing capacity, which allows for direct foundation alternatives in most cases. Fine sands and silts, which occur only occasionally, may require specific assessment if they coincide locally beneath the strip footings.

Seismicity in Mataró is very low, with only two low-magnitude events in the last thirty years, which implies practically negligible seismic risk. As there is no karst development and no presence of expansive clayey materials, and since the bedrock is mostly non-clayey, no expansivity problems are identified either. Therefore, the main constraint for the geotechnical study will be the grain-size characteristics and the compactness of the strata located in the project.
