Geotechnical study in Artziniega

In Artziniega, the predominant geological substrate is made up mainly of limestones, dolomites and marbles—materials with high mechanical competence that typically provide excellent bearing capacity for shallow or deep foundations. The occasional presence of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch also helps to create generally favourable conditions, while the occurrence of clays and hard marls is limited and usually does not significantly affect the choice of foundation type. Given the characteristic impermeability of these rocks, it is feasible to find shallow retention aquifers, but they do not negatively affect the stability of structural supports.

From the perspective of geotechnical hazards, Artziniega has very low seismicity, with only one minor event every 30 years and very low magnitudes (Mmax 2.4), so it does not represent a significant constraint for structural design. The expansiveness analysis indicates an absence of risk associated with the substrate type, since expansive clays do not predominate. Therefore, the main factor to assess in geotechnical studies in the area is the correct characterisation of the bedrock substrate and the identification of any possible shallow aquifers.
