Types of ground in Teruel
Within the municipal term of Teruel, hard materials such as limestones, dolomites and marbles predominate, showing a notable frequency followed by smaller units of sandstones and conglomerates, in addition to occasional occurrences of gypsum and anhydrite. These lithologies offer good bearing capacity, facilitating solutions based on shallow/mass foundation. However, the presence of gypsum and salts implies a localised risk of dissolution, particularly in areas where favourable hydrogeological conditions exist, which must be taken into account during the geotechnical study to avoid problems of subsidence or differential settlements.
