Tipos de terreno en Málaga
In Málaga, the ground is composed predominantly of slates and schists, which are identified by their low permeability and compactness, thereby favouring stability for shallow and semi-deep foundations. Calcareous rocks, dolomites and marbles are also common; these are hard materials but may have internal cavities. Bearing capacity varies according to the type of substrate: whereas pelitic formations (slates and schists) allow conventional foundations, carbonated formations may require specific studies to detect voids or weak zones. Sandy and conglomeratic materials, although present in smaller proportions, may locally give rise to less favourable conditions for supporting structures when layers of fine sands or silts appear.
Seismicity in Málaga is considered notable, with 131 recorded events over the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 4.6, which means that seismic-resistant design criteria must be incorporated into the structural sizing in accordance with the current regulations. Given the habitual presence of carbonated materials, karst development must be verified before proceeding with the foundation in order to avoid risks associated with subsidence or localised collapses. The non-clayey substrate rules out any significant risk of expansiveness. Overall, the main factor conditioning the geotechnical study in Málaga is the possible presence of cavities in the rock substrate alongside seismicity—both of which must be carefully reviewed in any building project.
