In Soneja, the geotechnical subsoil is characterised by a significant presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts, accompanied by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, as well as limestones, dolomites and marbles in notable proportions. Lithological heterogeneity implies differences in bearing capacity and behaviour towards foundations: whereas detrital materials such as sandstones generally provide good support, gypsum and salts may present a risk of dissolution, which can affect the stability of foundations. The occasional presence of compact gravels and sands locally improves load-bearing capacity, but possible horizontal variations in strength and settlement must be taken into account.

Seismicity within the municipal area is very low, with only around 2 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.7, so seismic risk does not represent a relevant constraint for structural design. However, given the significant frequency of gypsum and carbonate materials, it is necessary to verify the existence of karst processes before founding, since dissolutions can generate voids and unpredictable differential settlements. In addition, as the subsoil is non-clayey, there is no risk of expansivity. Therefore, the main factor to consider in Soneja is the possibility of karst development and dissolution-related phenomena associated with the gypsum substrate.
