Estudio geotécnico in Montalbán

In Montalbán, calcareous substrates predominate, namely limestones, dolomites and marbles, accompanied by sandstones, conglomerates, flysch and, to a lesser extent, deposits of shales, schists and gypsum, anhydrite and salts. The dominant carbonated soils, together with the occasional presence of salts and gypsum, show a good bearing capacity that is generally favourable for shallow foundations, although the variability of the materials requires in situ characterisation. In addition, the associated aquifers exhibit high permeability and high productivity, which may affect the site’s drainage conditions and its behaviour during excavations.

Seismicity in the area is very low, with only two recorded events in 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.1, so it does not represent a relevant constraint for structural design. Since the substrate is non-clayey, the risk of expansivity is ruled out. However, the presence of karstic media in limestones and dolomites, together with the possible dissolution of gypsum, means that specific studies must be carried out prior to foundation works to rule out the presence of voids or sinkholes; this aspect is the main geotechnical constraint in the municipality.
