Types of ground in Plane

In the municipality of Avión, the dominant subsoil is mainly composed of slates and schists, with a significant proportion of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch. These materials, of fundamentally metamorphic and detrital nature, provide a low to medium bearing-capacity foundation, with the slates being somewhat more sensitive to point pressures. The sandstones and conglomerates, when they are not deeply altered, allow shallow or semi-deep foundations without relevant complications; however, it is recommended to analyse the surface alterability. The occasional presence of masses of water has hardly any direct influence, except in specific cases involving foundations adjacent to one another.

With regard to seismicity, Avión has a very low level, with only 4 recorded events in the last 30 years and a moderate maximum magnitude of 3.2, which minimises the seismic constraint in structural design. The non-clayey subsoil rules out expansivity risks, contributing to the overall geotechnical stability of the area. Therefore, the main challenge in the geotechnical study lies in analysing the competence of the altered rock subsoil, particularly in transition zones between slates and sandstones.
