Geotechnical study in Moraña

In the municipality of Moraña, rocky substrates such as sandstones, conglomerates and flysch predominate, occupying the majority of the land. These materials generally provide good bearing capacity for foundations, although they may show some heterogeneity in terms of compaction and the localised presence of fractures. Fine sands, silts and, to a lesser extent, bodies of water appear occasionally and could require specific attention to avoid differential settlement, particularly at material transitions. Slate and schist, although not dominant, also contribute to the overall stability of the soils available for founding.

The district shows very low seismicity, with only 7 events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.4, so the seismic influence on geotechnical design is insignificant. Since the substratum is not clayey, the risk of expansivity is ruled out, making it easier to select stable and predictable foundation solutions. Thus, the most relevant factor to consider in Moraña is the appropriate characterisation of the transition between materials and the assessment of the groundwater level in areas close to bodies of water and silts.
