Geotechnical study in Lemoiz

In Lemoiz, substrates of sandstone, conglomerates and flysch predominate, accounting for more than 49% of the superficial geology, followed by the presence of fine sands and silts, as well as localised areas with limestones, dolomites and marbles. These lithologies, of consolidated nature and generally impermeable, provide favourable conditions for shallow foundations except in specific sectors with sands or silts, where a more detailed assessment of compaction and settlements may be required. Bearing capacity is usually adequate in these formations, although in areas with weakly cohesive materials or fine-grained particle size, the design should be made more conservative to avoid stability problems.

Seismic activity in the municipality is notable, with 94 events recorded over the last three decades, although the maximum magnitude reached is 3.7, which does not impose strict structural constraints but does suggest taking it into account in sensitive projects. The risk of expansivity is low, since expansive clays occur in a subordinate manner and do not predominate in the subsoil. There is no impact from karstification nor any significant presence of materials with a risk of dissolution. The main aspect to control will be the location of sectors with fine-grained particle size or low cohesion and the localised management of the impermeability of the materials in relation to groundwater levels.
