Geotechnical study in Higuera de Vargas

In Higuera de Vargas, soils formed by slates and schists predominate, with a very high frequency, followed by formations of granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks. These lithologies are typical of geologically stable environments and provide good bearing capacity, which facilitates the selection of shallow or direct foundation solutions. Given that both formations have very low permeability, there may be local shallow aquifers, but deep infiltration is limited, conditioning the management of groundwater on site.

Seismic activity in the municipality is very low, with a single significant event recorded in 30 years and a low maximum magnitude, so seismicity does not constitute a relevant constraint for structural design. However, the presence of karst in the area means that possible voids and dissolution processes must be verified before carrying out any foundation; this is the main aspect to be controlled in the geotechnical study. The non-clayey substrate rules out risks of expansiveness, providing additional reliability for the foundation options.
