Geotechnical study in Beas de Segura

In Beas de Segura, the dominant geotechnical substrate is mainly made up of limestones, dolomites and marbles, hard materials with high competence, which provide high bearing capacities ideal for supporting shallow or deep foundations. Although gypsum, anhydrite and salts are detected in a minor proportion, it is important to highlight the low incidence of expansive clays and soft soils; therefore, most of the ground presents favourable conditions for construction. The low natural permeability of these formations may give rise to localised shallow aquifers, but it does not significantly affect the choice of foundation type except in specific areas.

Seismicity in the municipality is very low, with only 4 registered events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.1, so it does not constitute a significant constraint in the usual structural design. It is essential to note susceptibility to karst-related phenomena due to the high presence of carbonate materials: before sizing the foundation, the possible existence of underground cavities or dissolutions that could generate differential settlement or instability must be verified. The absence of a clayey substrate rules out the risk of expansiveness. Thus, the main geotechnical concern in Beas de Segura is verifying karst, which is considered a priority over any other local factor.
