Geotechnical study in Arroyo de la Luz

In Arroyo de la Luz, soils formed by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks predominate, representing more than 80% of the surface area, with occasional occurrence of slate and schists. These lithologies offer high bearing capacity and usually require direct or shallow foundations, as they exhibit stable and resistant behaviour. The permeability of the substrate is generally low, although aquifers may exist in shallow levels, which makes it necessary to pay close attention to drainage in areas that are locally saturated.

Seismic activity in the municipality is very low, with only one recorded event in three decades and a low maximum magnitude, which minimises seismoresistant constraints in projects. No risks of karstification or expansivity are presented, as the substrate is not clayey. The determining factor in local geotechnical studies lies in the rock stiffness and discontinuities, which are key points for the correct selection of foundation type.
