In Zizurkil, limestone, dolomites and marbles predominate; these are materials characterised by their good bearing capacity and stability of support for shallow foundations. Sandstones and conglomerates also appear frequently, introducing some variability in the ground, while the occasional presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts suggests a risk of dissolution in localised areas. This geological context makes it necessary to carry out an accurate characterisation of the subsoil during the design phase, in order to optimise the foundation type and to rule out problem zones in the event of an accumulation of soluble salts.

With regard to seismic hazard, Zizurkil shows very low activity, with only a single recorded event over 30 years and a low maximum magnitude; therefore, the earthquake does not represent a relevant constraint for structural calculation. On the other hand, it is important to highlight the frequent presence of carbonate formations that are susceptible to karst development; accordingly, it is essential to verify the existence of cavities before constructing. Finally, the non-clayey subsoil eliminates the risk of expansiveness, leaving as the main conditioning factor the possible influence of karst and the local dissolution of gypsum.
