In Xerta, compact gravels and sands predominate, accompanied in smaller proportions by limestones, dolomites and marbles, as well as the occasional presence of fine sands and silts. These materials usually provide a good bearing capacity for foundations, especially when they are founded on the most compact levels. However, the presence of carbonate formations requires assessing the possible existence of caves or dissolutions typical of karstified environments before carrying out deep or shallow foundations, particularly in areas where limestones and dolomites predominate.

The recorded seismic activity is very low, with just one detected event every 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.5, so it does not represent a significant concern for structural design. The substratum contains no clayey materials, eliminating the risk of expansivity. The main conditioning factor for the geotechnical study in Xerta is the possible presence of karst-related phenomena, which must be analysed through specific tests to ensure the stability and safety of the foundations.
