Types of ground in Xeresa
In Xeresa, a substrate of limestones, dolomites and marbles predominates, accompanied by frequent gravels and compact sands. These materials provide high bearing capacity and stability for the foundation of all types of structures. The occasional presence of sandstones and conglomerates reinforces soil competence, and the low proportion of expansive or soft clays reduces the risks associated with volumetric deformations. The high permeability of the aquifers improves drainage, but requires controlling drawdowns of the groundwater table in underground projects.
Seismicity in Xeresa is moderate, with 27 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 3.4, which implies low requirements from the seismic point of view. However, the possible existence of karst formations makes it necessary to carry out additional checks on voids and cavities before defining the foundation solution; this is the main local constraint. The non-clayey nature of the substrate rules out risks from expansive soils and allows projects to be approached with a generally favourable geotechnical basis, always provided that stability against karst is verified.
