In Xaló, the predominant geological substrate is formed by limestones, dolomites and marbles, very common materials that provide a high load-bearing capacity base, suitable for conventional shallow footings. Occasionally, fine sands and silts have also been identified, together with small proportions of overconsolidated clays and marls; however, they represent a minor percentage and rarely significantly affect the foundation design. The presence, although rare, of gypsum, anhydrite and salts indicates a possible risk of dissolution, which must be analysed especially in localised areas before deciding on the support type.

With regard to additional geotechnical behaviour, the municipality has a non-clayey substrate, which rules out risks associated with clay expansiveness. Seismicity in Xaló is very low, with only 2 events over the last 30 years and a very low maximum magnitude (Mmax 1.7), so it will not influence the usual structural design. However, the dominant carbonatic lithology makes it necessary to carry out checks on the existence of karstic cavities before executing the foundation, this being the main geotechnical constraint in the area.
