In Valdelaguna, the dominant bedrock is made up mostly of limestones, dolomites and marbles: materials of a hard, compact nature that provide a high bearing capacity, allowing shallow direct foundations in most cases. This is complemented by significant contributions from sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, as well as from compact gravels and sands, favouring consistent and stable bearing conditions. However, there is occasional presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts, which introduces potential dissolution risks—an important aspect to consider during the foundation design phase.

Seismic activity in the municipality is moderate, with 21 reported events over the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 3.2, which generally does not constitute a relevant limitation for structural design. Given the carbonate nature of the ground, the presence of karst is significant and must be investigated through specific studies before proceeding with the foundation, as it can severely affect stability. The bedrock is not clayey, ruling out expansivity risks, so the main technical constraint is the possible presence of karstified voids and the dissolution of gypsum.
