Types of ground in Valdáliga
In Valdáliga, the predominant soils are limestones, dolomites and marbles, accompanied by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which characterises the municipality through hard and compact substrates. These materials usually provide a good bearing capacity for buildings, although the occasional presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts implies a risk of dissolution that must be assessed. In addition, the generally low permeability of the formations conditions the behaviour of the foundations, making it essential to carry out a detailed geotechnical study to determine the optimal support levels and rule out the presence of problematic materials.
As regards seismicity, Valdáliga shows notable activity, with 145 events over the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 4, which requires considering certain seismic parameters during structural design, although it is not the main conditioning factor. The risk of karstification is significant due to the abundance of limestones and dolomites, so it is essential to check for the existence of cavities or instances of dissolution before carrying out foundation work. The subsoil is not clayey, ruling out any issues associated with expansive clays. The main geotechnical factor conditioning the area is the possible presence of karst and risks associated with gypsum or salts, which must be specifically assessed for each plot.
