In Torrenueva Costa, the dominant geotechnical substrate is composed mostly of phyllites and schists, metamorphic materials of notable strength and low deformability, which provide adequate bearing capacity for founding most buildings. Fine sands and silts are also found in smaller proportions, mainly in areas closer to the coast, which may have a lower bearing capacity and require additional compaction and consolidation studies before determining the optimal type of foundation.

Seismic activity in the municipality is high, with 200 recorded events over 30 years, although the maximum magnitude attained is moderate (Mmax 3.8), so the seismic influence must be analysed carefully in the structural and foundation design. The area lacks significant karst phenomena and, since the substrate is not clayey, the risk of expansivity is ruled out. The main geotechnical constraint is considered to be the mechanical characteristics of the dominant materials and the proper management of the groundwater levels where sands or silts exist at the surface; the geotechnical studies must refine the assessment of these sectors to ensure the stability of the designed structures.
