Types of ground in Torre de Miguel Sesmero

In Torre de Miguel Sesmero, the subsoil is dominated by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which constitute competent materials and offer good bearing capacities for building and civil engineering projects. Compact gravels and sands are also common, providing good conditions for shallow foundations. The occasional presence of slates, schists and calcareous materials suggests local variability that may require targeted investigation, whereas the finer layers of silty sands and hard clays, although less frequent, call for specific structural assessment if they occur in the bearing stratum.

Seismicity in the area is very low, with only 2 events over 30 years and a low maximum magnitude, which minimises seismic risk for structural design. However, the existence of calcareous materials indicates that karst process development is possible; therefore, it is essential to verify the presence of cavities or dissolution before proceeding with any foundation project. Expansivity does not represent a risk because the subsoil is non-clayey, placing the main geotechnical constraint on the potential for karst developments in the ground.
