Types of ground in Teguise
In Teguise, the subsoil is dominated mainly by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks, as well as by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which evidences the presence of competent materials with a high bearing capacity. This type of ground favours direct foundation through strip footings or a raft, since it provides stability and reduces deformations under load. Although gravels, compact sands and some specific areas with overconsolidated clays are occasionally located, the incidence of soft ground is low, and the presence of urban anthropogenic fill is of little significance from the standpoint of bearing capacity.
With regard to geotechnical performance against natural phenomena, seismicity in Teguise is very low, with only 3 events in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 4.4, so structural design does not require specific measures in this respect. There is also no risk of karstification or relevant expansivity, given the predominantly rocky characteristics and the absence of clayey strata. The main limiting factor for the geotechnical study in the area will be the lithological variability between the different strata and the possible presence of perched aquifers at the contacts between formations, which calls for a detailed analysis of the local hydrogeology.
