In El Tanque, the geological substrate is dominated by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which represent most of the ground, whereas fine sands and silts are found in specific areas. These materials generally offer good bearing capacity for the foundations, especially in the more compact zones; however, in the presence of sands and silts, it may be necessary to carry out a detailed characterisation, as they could present lower strength and higher compressibility, influencing the selection of the most suitable type of foundation.

The seismicity in El Tanque is of a moderate nature, with 11 events over the last 30 years and a maximum recorded magnitude of 2.2, which does not impose strict constraints on structural design. No risks are associated with karst or expansive soils according to the information available. Therefore, the main aspect to be controlled in a geotechnical study will be lithological variability and the identification of localised zones with less competent soils, to ensure the stability and durability of the foundations.
