In Pliego, the geotechnical study should focus on characterising sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which dominate the geological substrate, accompanied by significant fractions of compact gravel and sand, as well as occasional levels of limestones, dolomites and marbles. The soils present in the area are, for the most part, materials of high density and consistency, with low permeability, which provides favourable conditions for bearing capacity and an efficient direct foundation, provided that the presence of loose or superficially altered levels is ruled out.

The seismic activity in Pliego is very low (6 events in 30 years, Mmax 3.6), so seismic risk does not present itself as a significant limitation from a structural point of view. However, due to the occasional presence of limestones and dolomites, it is necessary to verify any potential karst processes that could affect ground stability before executing any foundation. The absence of clayey soils rules out expansivity risks, with the possibility of karstification being the main geotechnical factor to be assessed in the area.
