Types of ground in Seròs

In the municipality of Seròs, groundwater bodies and soils with gypsum, anhydrite and salts predominate, followed by the occasional presence of gravels, compacted sands and silts. The significant proportion of evaporitic materials implies the need to carefully assess the risk of dissolution, especially before carrying out foundations, since these soils may experience differential settlements. Direct support on gravels and compacted sands can provide good local bearing capacity, but any foundation solution must be adapted to the heterogeneity of the ground and its generally low permeability.

Seismicity in Seròs is very low, with minimal records and a low maximum magnitude, which practically eliminates the seismic factor for structural design. As there are no clay sub-strata or indications of karstification, the risk of swell and subsidence due to cavities is ruled out. Therefore, the main technical factor to be evaluated in geotechnical studies for foundations remains the risk of dissolution of the gypsum, anhydrite and salts, as well as the possible presence of a high water table associated with the groundwater bodies.
