In Santa Margarida i els Monjos, compact gravels and sands predominate, providing a substrate with good bearing capacity for conventional foundations. The occasional presence of fine sands, silts, and overconsolidated clays or marls (with a hard behaviour) could locally influence the choice of foundation, although in general these are suitable materials for construction. In addition, outcrops of limestones, dolomites and marbles, although less frequent, may provide solid beds for shallow/direct foundation in some places.

Seismic activity is very low, with only one recorded event in the last 30 years of low magnitude (Mmax 1.5), which minimises the need for special conditions due to seismicity in structural design. The non-clayey substrate rules out the risk of expansivity, and since it is not located in a karst area, problems associated with cavities or subsidence are also not expected. Therefore, the main practical constraint will be determined by local variability in soil composition and moderate permeability.
