In Sant Quirze de Besora, substrates of sandstone, conglomerates and flysch predominate, representing the majority of the ground and providing good mechanical conditions for shallow foundations. Although, to a significant extent, white or soft expansive clays appear, their role is mitigated by the fact that they are not the dominant substrate. The geological formations in the area are generally characterised by very low permeability, although they may retain superficial aquifers of local importance, which should be taken into account for groundwater management during the works.

Seismic activity in the municipality is very low; only five events have been recorded in the last thirty years, with a maximum magnitude of 1.6, parameters that do not affect structural design in any significant way. Given the predominance of a non-clayey substrate, the risk of significant expansivity for the building is ruled out. In this setting, lithological characteristics and permeability primarily govern the foundation solutions and the possible interaction with the water table.
