Types of ground in Sant Martí Sarroca
In Sant Martí Sarroca, gravels and compact sands predominate, followed by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch formations, completing the set with a certain presence of limestones, dolomites and marbles. The presence of these materials generally facilitates good bearing capacity, allowing conventional shallow foundations to be used provided that the competent strata are located. The formations are extensive and, although the surface permeability is low, deeper aquifers may exist and will have to be considered in later stages of the geotechnical study.
Local seismicity is very low, with only around 2 events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.7, so it does not represent a constraint in the drafting or verification of the structural design of the project. The subsoil is not clayey, ruling out any risks of expansivity in the area. However, the presence of limestones and dolomites implies the need to check for karstic phenomena before executing the foundations, this being the main geotechnical factor to be controlled in the municipality.
