Types of ground in Sangüesa/Zangoza

In the municipality of Sangüesa/Zangoza, limestones, dolomites and marbles predominate as the geological substratum, occupying almost three quarters of the territory and thus providing excellent bearing-capacity conditions for conventional foundations. These hard, low-deformability materials favour direct solutions for shallow surface support, although it is occasionally possible to find sandstones or conglomerates which, due to their nature, also exhibit suitable mechanical characteristics. The occasional presence of water-bearing masses reflects areas associated with local hydrogeological processes, although the rock matrix generally remains stable for construction.

Seismicity in Sangüesa/Zangoza is moderate, with 24 events recorded over the last 30 years and a low maximum magnitude (Mmax 2.1), so the seismic factor does not usually constitute a significant limitation in structural design. In addition, since the substratum is non-clayey, the presence of risks associated with soil expansivity is ruled out. Overall, the main geotechnical constraint is related to the accurate identification of the lithology at the foundation point, favouring stable and predictable behaviour in most projects.
