Estudio geotécnico in Sands of San Pedro

In Arenas de San Pedro, a substrate of granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks predominates, representing close to 80% of the surface materials. These lithologies are characterised by high strength and low alterability, which favours a high bearing capacity for the direct foundation of buildings and structures. Additionally, the residual presence of slates and schists contributes local heterogeneity, although in proportions that are not significant for the overall behaviour of the ground. The formations are usually of low permeability, with the possibility of superficial aquifers that, if present, require verification at the intersection with the water table levels during excavation.

Seismicity in the area is at moderate levels, with 32 recorded events over the last three decades and a maximum magnitude of 2.8, which does not imply a relevant constraint for structural design. There are no indications of karst development, and the non-clayey substrate present eliminates any concern regarding expansivity. In conclusion, the main constraint that must be considered in the geotechnical study is the morphology of the rock mass and the possible presence of fracturing, which is decisive for the type and depth of foundation to be designed.
